Development of a Danish version of Supported Conversation for Adults with Aphasia (Kagan 1998).

Researchers: The project is directed by Lise Randrup Jensen (INSS) and carried out by speech-language therapists at Center for Rehabilitation of Brain Injury. The project has been funded by the Danish Health Insurance Foundation and by the Jascha Foundation.

Persons with moderate to severe aphasia (disturbances of language after brain injury) have only limited access to information about their own disease and are often excluded from participating in important decisions regarding their own treatment and rehabilitation. A Canadian method, Supported Conversation for Adults with Aphasia, provides techniques to be used by the conversation partners of persons with aphasia, which supports the exchange of information as well as social communication with persons with aphasia. The project consists in translating and adapting a series of Canadian picture resource materials to Danish. The materials are intended for health professionals, who need to engage in professional discourse with persons with aphasia about their treatment, care and rehabilitation.
